Importance Of First Aid Training In Pre School

First Aid Training to students in a literal sense is simply equipping them with Life-Saving Skills i.e. “Handling themselves” in cases of calamity and that is just what the basic first aid is all about. The purposes of first aid are to:

• Preserve Life.

• Prevent Illness or Injury From Becoming Worse.

• Relieve Pain, If Possible.

• Promote Recovery.

• Protect the Unconscious

Every child of the school should be aware of and given the basic first aid training. Every student of the school includes the pre-schoolers as well. It’s just difficult to fathom how these tiny tots can be taught about first aid but then when they can be taught to read, write, learn, sing, dance and paint then why can’t such important and life -saving skills be imparted to them.

Training of basic first aid for preschoolers is so important to let them understand why adults treat them when they get injured and this knowledge helps eliminate some of the fear. They can be shown the basic first aid items like band-aids, antiseptic wash, and an ice pack to highlight their importance.

pre-schoolersPre-schoolers usually have plenty of experience with bumps and bruises. They explore, climb, and run around so often that band-aids become common elbow and knee additions for them.

Having so many resilient young children in a classroom makes first aid preparedness equally important for both students and teachers. Teaching these fledglings preparedness creates a safer environment for them.

So now the question arises as to how we can introduce the pre-schoolers to the all-important first aid tips. The primary need is to have a complete first aid kit in the classroom. Next is the role of the teacher in instructing the basic first aid rules for pre-schoolers.

They must be explained that the foremost requirement in case of a cut is to first clean the cut with antiseptic wash. Then pressure should be applied to stop bleeding and place a band-aid. Also, show them how to handle the band-aids without touching the sterile pad.

All this is to be demonstrated and e-learning modules on first aid treatment can be shown to them. Thereafter as a part of the mock drill, they should be asked to demonstrate the same process on a doll or a stuffed toy of theirs.

Learning how to get help is one of the most important safety lessons for a preschool class. They should be taught to dial and call for medical emergency services. Also, these young children must be trained to spot an emergency and then react to it. Basic first aid training covers a range of fundamental but essential skills. This includes –

• Calling ambulance

• Tending to cuts and bruises

• Stop, drop and roll

• Fire game plan

• Water safety particularly during swimming pool

• Avoiding dog bites

• Teaching them not to put everything in mouth

Thus this First aid training for the pre-school children is a pre-requisite for them for understanding the vital skills besides equipping them with life -saving abilities at the beginning of their life in school.
